The error message "Local Wi-Fi Network Failure" occurs when using the manual firmware update process and the mobile device is unable to communicate with the Decora Smart Wi-Fi device. This most commonly occurs when the mobile device is not connected to Wi-Fi or it is connected to a different Wi-Fi network than the Decora Smart Wi-Fi Device. The resolution is to connect to the same Wi-Fi network as the Decora Smart Wi-Fi device and restart the update process.
Guest Networks:
If the mobile device and Decora Smart Wi-Fi device are both connected to a Wi-Fi network, confirm the wireless network is not setup as a guest network, A guest network typically allows communication to the internet but prevents communication between devices connected to the network. The quickest resolution is to remove the guest restrictions on the wireless network, update the firmware, and then reapply the guest network setting. Once complete, the Decora Smart Wi-Fi device will begin to use the newer update process which no longer requires local communication.
