This depends on the hot spot configuration and your carrier. Some cell carriers turn off communication when data is not actively transmitting back and forth. This can affect the ability of a Wi-Fi device to wait for commands from the cloud for app control or commands from 3rd party products such as Amazon Echo or Google Home. The results appear as an intermittent connection. Contact your cell provider to determine if your hot spot is compatible.
