What is Matter?
Matter was developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance to provide a common communication language between devices and controllers in the smart home. Matter talks over Wi-Fi or Thread networks and is an evolution of how smart home devices work together, making it easier than ever to connect to the smart home platform of your choice.
How will Matter be supported by Decora Smart?
Matter is being enabled with a firmware update for Decora Smart Wi-Fi 2nd Gen devices in phases.
The Decora Smart Wi-Fi 2nd Gen D26HD Dimmer, D215S Switch, D215P Mini Plug-In Switch, and D23LP Mini Plug-In Dimmer can now be firmware updated to enable Matter compatibility.
Additional Wi-Fi 2nd Gen devices are planned for future updates. Decora Smart 1st Generation Wi-Fi and HomeKit devices are not being updated to support Matter.

How do I upgrade my devices and what should I expect?
To complete the firmware update, using a My Leviton account, log in to the My Leviton app to enroll in Leviton’s Matter Early Access Program. If you do not already have a My Leviton account, you will need to create one (https://my.leviton.com/home/registration/sign-up). Once enrolled, Matter-certified firmware can be installed on your compatible devices that have been enrolled in the My Leviton app using the System Updates tool. Click here for detailed directions.
Once updated, to control your devices using Matter, you will need to enroll your devices to a Matter enabled hub. Depending on your smart home platform of choice, this could be a supported Google Nest, Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod, or SmartThings device for example.
- If you already have a My Leviton account and your devices are enrolled in the My Leviton app, you will be able to update your devices using the System Update tool in the app. After the update, your existing cloud integrations including Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, IFTTT, August, and Schlage will not be impacted. Once updated, you can retrieve your Matter pairing code at any time under “Device Settings” in the My Leviton app.
- If you are an Apple HomeKit user and do not have a My Leviton account, you will need to create one and enroll your device to the My Leviton app in order to retrieve the Matter firmware update using the System Updates tool.
- Please note, for Apple HomeKit users, updating to Matter will remove your Decora Smart Wi-Fi device’s current connection to Apple HomeKit. After the update is complete, your device will need to be re-added to the Apple Home app using the Matter pairing code provided by the My Leviton app under Device Settings. Controlling Matter accessories with the Apple Home App and Siri requires an Apple Home hub such as a HomePod or Apple TV running the latest software. Click here to learn more.
